Seer License Explanation: Microsoft Store Version vs. Desktop Version
Please note that licenses for the Microsoft Store version and the Desktop version are completely separate. They cannot be transferred, exchanged, or used interchangeably.
Microsoft Store Version
Recommendation: Highly recommend using the Desktop version instead.
Due to how the Microsoft Store handles app sandboxing and system permissions, the Store version currently has the following known limitations:
- "Open/Save" Dialogs: The preview feature will not work inside standard Windows Open/Save file dialog boxes.
- Settings Not Saving: On a small number of PCs, Seer may fail to save your settings due to system restrictions. (Current Workaround: You can fix this by manually moving the configuration file to the
Seerfolder inside yourDocumentsdirectory). - Sleep/Wake Issue: The app may occasionally close automatically when your PC wakes up from sleep or standby mode.
- Delayed Updates: New updates arrive 2 to 7 days later than the Desktop version because of the Microsoft Store review process.
- No Manual Patches: You cannot manually replace the executable (
.exe) file.- Why this matters: If a rare but major bug happens on specific PCs, I usually send a quick patched
.exefile to fix it immediately. This isn't possible with the Store version.
- Why this matters: If a rare but major bug happens on specific PCs, I usually send a quick patched
- No Control Over Licenses: I have zero control over Microsoft Store licenses. I cannot manually deactivate a device, reset your activation count, or remove old devices for you.
- No Version Rollbacks: You cannot downgrade to an older version if you dislike an update.
How Store Licensing & Management Works:
Your purchase is permanently linked to your Microsoft Account. If you reinstall Windows or switch to a new PC, simply log into the Microsoft Store with the same account to download and use Seer. All trials, license checks, payments, and updates are handled entirely by Microsoft.
How to Redeem a Store Digital Code:
If you bought a promo/redeem code from a third-party reseller, follow these steps to activate it:
- Log into your Microsoft account at: https://redeem.microsoft.com/
- Enter your product code to claim it.
- Go to your desktop, press Win + E to open File Explorer, paste
ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9PGVFJBVBZWXinto the top address bar, and hit Enter. This will take you directly to the Seer Pro page in the Store. - Download, open, and enjoy! To verify it works, right-click the Seer icon in your system tray (bottom-right corner of your screen), go to
About -> About Seer. If the version number includes the letterU, you are successfully running the Store version. - Important: Due to Microsoft's rules, promo codes expire after a certain period. Please redeem your code as soon as possible after purchase according to Microsoft Store policies.
Desktop Version
How to Activate:
Right-click the Seer icon in your system tray (bottom-right corner of your screen), select Register, paste your license key into the pop-up window, and the app will automatically activate online.
How Licensing Works:
When you buy the Desktop version, you will receive a license key that can be activated up to 10 times.
- These 10 activations cover all scenarios, including reinstalling Windows, formatting your drive, or upgrading to a new PC.
- The app will show you how many remaining activations you have left each time you activate.
- The license key itself never expires.
